Distinguished delegates, looking at this room filled with brilliant minds, it is with immense pride and huge excitement that I welcome you to the 2026 Korean International School in Hanoi Model United Nations (KISHMUN). I am Byun Seonung, the Secretary-General of this year’s KISHMUN conference.
The world has changed, and now, it is demanding, encouraging, and even compelling us to fit into alterations that humanity has so far created. Numerous serious dilemmas, namely, global warming, pandemics, technological disparities, biodiversity loss, have reached unprecedented degrees of severity and become an insurmountable predicament that can never be resolved without multilateral cooperations followed by myriads of endeavors.
In short, now more than ever, we need advanced solutions, active communications, and a shared common view for a sustainable future. Granted, a majority of humanity are definitely suffering from myopic perspectives toward these obstacles that engender quandaries and perils: inducing deterrence and impediments toward efforts bombarded to mitigate ongoing vulnerabilities.
I believe that the Model United Nations has the capacity to untangle this problem. At its core, Model United Nations is a dynamic platform where we analyze global problems, challenge the status quo, and forge real solutions for the international community. In this conference, each of you acts as a delegate, defending your country's national interests, navigating obstacles, and fiercely debating through endless caucuses and amendments until a final resolution is born. This journey does more than just simulate, instead it sharpens your insight, deepens your analytical skills, refines your persuasion, and builds your leadership.
Of course, the value of MUN extends far beyond the conference room into broader political disciplines. MUN empowers students with appropriate methodologies to comprehend and navigate these global hazards. While preparing for the KISHMUN conference, students scrupulously research and scrutinize specific details of current situations alongside each nation’s stances. Ultimately, the more deeply you engaged withMUN, the more you will acquire a nuanced political perspective and a profound understanding toward the structure of international relations.
For five consecutive celebrations, KISHMUN has grown into a prestigious and large-scale conference, widely recognized for its high academic stances. However, the veritable foundation of this success lies in the hidden hard work and enormous passions. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all the delegates who pushed through obstacles and gave their absolute best until the very end of the conference. I am equally thankful to our dedicated teachers and advisors, whose invaluable support and guidance made the successful hosting of this conference possible.

As we stand before our sixth annual conference, our world continues to face complex and interconnected global issues, ranging from endless conflicts to pressing environmental challenges. Addressing these crises requires collective intelligence, empathetic diplomacy, and decisive leadership.
I believe that KISHMUN is far more than a simple school club activity. It is a vital platform where students step into the shoes of global leaders to analyze pressing issues, engage in rigorous debates, and collaborate to draft meaningful resolutions.
Through this process, delegates will learn the true value of compromise and mutual respect. It is my great honor and privilege to welcome you to the 2026 Korean International School in Hanoi Model United Nations as your Deputy Secretary-General.
As we stand before our sixth annual conference, we are reminded of how far KISHMUN has grown through the passion, resilience, and vision of its students. Today, our world faces complex and unprecedented challenges from global economic shifts to environmental crises that threaten the hard-won progress toward a sustainable future. Navigating these obstacles is no easy task. Yet, KISHMUN has always been more than just a simulation; it is a vital training ground where experience is our ultimate guide.
This year, we place a special emphasis on mentorship dedicating our time to guiding our younger and newer delegates, instilling in them proper parliamentary strategies, and deepening their fundamental understanding of diplomacy. MUN is an activity that requires us to analyze international crises, step into the shoes of foreign diplomats, and negotiate passionately in English until the best resolutions are born. In doing so, you are not only developing critical thinking, persuasion, and leadership skills, but you are also actively sharpening your English proficiency and learning how to champion national interests while cooperating for the greater good.
We all gathered here today with a dream. While the future we envision may take different shapes, we share a singular, collective desire: a peaceful, equitable, and beautiful world. Model United Nations is the first step in turning that vision into a reality, and your motivation to tackle these modern issues fills us with immense hope.
